MarketWatch is a utility that allows you to keep track and watch the progress of the stock market. MarketWatch allows you to have multiple portfolios with different stock symbols in each portfolio, which allows for an organized way to track your stocks. You can have the MarketWatch ticker move across your screen so you can keep an eye on the market as you work.
Using MarketWatch
• Symbol List - A list of the stock symbols that are in the currently selected Portfolio.
• Symbol Options - Add: Adds the the symbol that is in the field to the current portfolio. Remove: Deletes the currently selected symbol from the portfolio.
• Portfolio List - A list of all the portfolios that you have created. Select the portfolio to view and edit the symbols in that portfolio.
• Portfolio Options - New: Creates a new portfolio. Edit: Changes the name of the currently selected portfolio. Delete: Deletes the selected portfolio and all the symbols inside that portfolio.
• Update Options - With ‘Auto Update’ on MarketWatch will update your selected portfolio every x number of minutes, which is set in the field marked “mins”. Also when ‘Auto Update’ is on and you change a portfolio or select a new one, MarketWatch will automatically update the symbols for you. MarketWatch gets its stock quotes from Yahoo! so the quotes are updated as often as Yahoo! updates their quotes.
• Get Quotes - Pressing this button gets all the quotes for the current portfolio.
• More Info - Pressing ‘More Info’ launches your default web browser and gets you all the latest news and charts for the selected symbol.
• Stock Ticker - The stationary stock ticker is always at the bottom of the MarketWatch window. It will scroll the symbols in the current portfolio across the window ticker style. Clicking on stock quotes in the ticker will have the same affect as the ‘More Info” button where it will retreive the latest news and charts for you. Hold down the “shift” key while clicking on the ticker to change the speed of the ticker.
• Show Ticker - Pressing this button displays a global floating ticker window across the bottom of your screen. This window is a ticker just like the one in the MarketWatch window except that this window is movable and resizable across the screen. Also with it being global it will be visible in all applications. This is nice to have your stocks moving across the screen while you work without worrying about having MarketWatch remain the frontmost application.
